The Emmy Winners of 1966

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama were…

Leo G. Carroll for The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Leonard Nimoy for Star Trek

the winner was…

Eli Wallach for the Xerox Special: Poppies Are Also Flowers on ABC

I’m a big fan of Eli Wallach. Hell, I gave him the Oscar for best actor this year for playing Tuco in The Good, the Bad & the Ugly. But how can you not give this one to Spock?

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama were…

Tina Chen for CBS Playhouse – The Final War of Olly Winter

Ruth Warrick for Peyton Place

the winner was…

Agnes Moorehead for The Wild Wild West on CBS

I haven’t seen any of this. Apparently you can’t even find a recording of that Olly Winter movie. I like Agnes Moorhead as Endora on Bewitched so I won’t argue with this one.

The nominees for Best Actor in a Drama were…

Robert Culp for I Spy

Ben Gazzara for Run for Your Life

David Janssen for The Fugitive

Martin Landau for Mission: Impossible

the winner was…

Bill Cosby for I Spy on NBC

Damn! No love for Shatner? I want to throw this one Kirk’s way, but out of the nominated guys, I guess I’ll go with Landau.

The nominees for Best Actress in a Drama were…

Diana Rigg for The Avengers

Barbara Stanwyck for The Big Valley

the winner was…

Barbara Bain for Mission: Impossible on CBS

Please! Barbara Bain was good but this has got to go to Miss Emma Peel.

The nominees for Best Drama Series were…

The Avengers

I Spy

Run For Your Life

Star Trek

the winner was…

Mission: Impossible on CBS

Tough category. Mission: Impossible was a terrific show that year, but Star Trek’s first season was incredible and The Avengers was at its peak. I want to give this to Star Trek.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy were…

Gale Gordon for The Lucy Show

Werner Klemperer for Hogan’s Heroes

the winner was…

Don Knotts for The Andy Griffith Show on CBS

Barney Fife is the man. You’ll get no argument from me.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy were…

Nancy Kulp for The Beverly Hillbillies

Marion Lorne for Bewitched

the winner was…

Frances Bavier for The Andy Griffith Show on CBS

Aunt Bee is a good choice. Miss Hathaway on The Beverly Hillbillies would have been as well.

The nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy were…

Bob Crane for Hogan’s Heroes

Brian Keith for Family Affair

Larry Storch for F Troop

the winner was…

Don Adams for Get Smart on NBC

Larry Storch!!! Actually, I think Adam West should have gotten this one for Batman.

The nominees for Best Actress in a Comedy were…

Elizabeth Montgomery for Bewitched

Agnes Moorehead for Bewitched

Marlo Thomas for That Girl

the winner was…

Lucille Ball for The Lucy Show on CBS

Hey, how about Eva Gabor on Green Acres?

The nominees for Best Comedy Series were…

The Andy Griffith Show

Bewitched

Get Smart

Hogan’s Heroes

the winner was…

The Monkees on NBC

Firstly, Batman and I Dream of Jeannie should have gotten nominated, but I would give this to Andy Griffith. That was one hell of a good show.

Breakdown looks like one for ABC, three for NBC, and six Emmys for CBS.

Coming up we’ve got books, comics, sports, and then the music of 1966.

Thanks for your interest. Your comments and opinions are welcome and encouraged.
